ST PATTY"S DAY BRAWL DOXING A to Z
YONKERS NY March 12 2010 - Many local fans braved the rainy weather and saw bouts that results in a mixed potpourri - Dayrl Madison retired Robert Wiggins after two rounds in a main event that was far from exciting from the previous bouts. Madison was in control as his opponent seemed to lack energy or incentive.
In the upset of the night, Ariel Espinal, a journeyman who returned to the ring after a few year hiatus stopped previously unbeaten Hijiro Sujak in a cruiserweight contest. Espinal waited and baited Sujak until the second frame when he staggered Sujak with a straight right - then an overhand right that sent him down. Sujak could not beat the count and Espinal, still a dangerous blue corner opponent, had his seventh victory . . . .
And you can applaud the women - 125lber Jennifer Han traveled all the way from El Paso Texas and boxed well with local Bronx favorite Nydia Velasquez, earning a hard fought draw. The bout was exciting as Velasquez pressed Han, who was circling, jabbing, and hooking throughout the fight. Velasquez has improved in recent bouts, as was the case here, and she needed every bit of skill to offset Han, who was a decorated amateur star. This was the best action of the night. Light Heavyweight Ronson Frank improved to 14-0 with an eight round decision over veteran Raynard Darden . . .Lambros "Lionheart" Karoalides stayed unbeaten with a hard victory over Ashante Hendrickson . . . Chazz Macdowell and Raul Lopez won in earlier contests as they are being groomed for the pros . . . JLM
