"DA BOMB" FACES OFF AGAINST "LA BOMBA"
1st PHOTO: BAZOOKA PRESS In what looks to be developing into a dynamite boxing card at New York's Madison Square Garden on the night of March 17th, it has been formally announced that Chicago's Donovan "Da Bomb" George (22-1-1, 19K0's) will face rising contender Edwin "La Bomba" Rodriquez (20-0, 14KO's) in a 168lb matchup. The co-feature to the Martinez-Macklin title bout will be televised by HBO .Team George was in New York yesterday to promote his MSG debut and was an eager fighter ready to step into the Garden ring . . . "I will give it my all . . . I will tell you I will be victorious or I will go out on my shield" stated the fighter - promising a "Bombs Away" slugfest made only for the Garden on St. Paddy's day.
Interesting, but both fighters are very similar, both standing an even '6, with a punching persona that earned them their nickname. George's impressive victory was a KO of previously unbeaten Cornelius White, while Rodriguez is coming off a decision win over Will Rosinsky. Judging by the tale of the tape, it does not look as though this fight will go the distance.
The undercard is loaded with local talent with Sean Monaghan, Thomas Hardwick, and Danny McDermott all seeing action - and promises to be a night of KO action. JLM

BROADWAY BOXING RETURNING TO ROOTS New York, NY - (12/14/2011) - On Saturday, January 21, DiBella Entertainment (DBE) will kick off the 2012 season of the popular "Broadway Boxing" series at the famed Roseland Ballroom in New York City. Headlining the 10-bout card, which is loaded with a bevy of local New York talent, will be Brooklyn's undefeated NABF light welterweight champion, Gabriel "Tito" Bracero (18-0, 3KO's). "This is going to be our eighth consecutive year with the series and we expect it to be one of the best and most memorable years yet, commencing with what is sure to be an action-packed night of boxing on January 21st," said Lou DiBella, President and CEO of DiBella Entertainment. In addition to Bracero headlining, several of DBE's most promising up-and-coming prospects are set to see action on the card, including recent cruiserweight world title challenger Ran Nakash (25-1, 18KO's) making his DBE debut, fast-rising WBA #5-rated featherweight contender Luis Del Valle (14-0, 11KO's), super bantamweight Luis Rosa (9-0, 5KO's), junior middleweight Delen Parsley (6-0, 2KO's) and four-time Golden Gloves Champion Sonya Lamonakis (6-0, 1KO). Also scheduled to appear on the card are two of the New York area's most popular, fan-friendly Irish prospects: light heavyweight Seanie Monaghan (11-0, 8KO's) and heavyweight Thomas Hardwick (3-0, 2KO's). A complete list of the undercard will be announced shortly. Doors open at 6:00PM with the first bout scheduled for 6:30PM.
THE MANY FACES OF ANTONIO MARGARITO Does this face remind you of a criminal? Or is this fighter a modern day remake of the old time film " They Made Me A Criminal" Hiding behind sunglasses, and shaggy haired, Margarito looks like a man in denial, or a exiled dictator as who sat and talked with reporters at the final press conference in New York City Nov 30.Regardless. when Antonio Margarito takes the ring Saturday night at Madison Square Garden it will be under suspicion from the first fight with opponent Miguel Cotto - a brutal bout in which Cotto suffered multiple bumps and bruises conducive to a fighter being hit with loaded fists. Result? Margarito TKO 11. But it wasn't known until Margarito was spotted by Shane Mosley's trainer before their bout a year later that something was up - even though denied by Margarito's promoter Bob Arum who cried this was a witch hunt against one of his most prized fighter. Margarito, or as fans put it "Margarcheato" has been tried and convicted in the field of public opinion, this as his onslaught on opponents waned right after Mosley stopped him in round 9 in their only bout. "El Criminale" one shouted out as Margarito took the podium to speak through an interpreter. The ego bruised fighter responded to the bias Cotto fan that "at least I don't beat on my own family", a reference to Cotto's brawl a couple years back with his trainer uncle in Puerto Rico. So intense is this bout that the two fighters did not do the face to face photo - a true sign of the bitterness that the two have. To Cotto, an impressive victory would eradicate the loss - his first as a pro that sent him into a semi-demise and to Margarito, an impressive win would mean that the first bout was not a fluke and kind of - maybe - prove his innocence that he indeed won that bout legitimately, as he says. However - if he wins because of the style matchup - lets say by close decision, fans will still accuse him of loading the handwraps, an insinuation that will haunt him the rest of his life. Margarito stated that Cotto himself is invited to wrap his hands before the fight. We have to see - does Cotto have enough left? And which face of Margarito will show up at fight time? The defensive posturing and the sunglasses come off when the bell first rings near the December 3rd midnight. We shall see. JLM
FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE IN NYC
ANDY LEE, SERGIO MARTINEZ, DARREN BARKER, BRYAN VERA Below are quotes from DiBella, Sergio Martinez, Darren Barker, Eddie Hearn, of Matchroom Sport, Andy Lee and Bryan Vera LOU DIBELLA - "This is going to be a great card on Saturday night," said DiBella. "Not only are the televised fights going to be great but the off-TV undercard is going to be terrific as well. In boxing we have to offer entertainment from the second people get in their seats until they leave, and that's what we have Saturday night. "In the main event, we have, who I believe to be the number one fighter in the world, Sergio 'Maravilla' Martinez being challenged by a young man, who has been grossly underestimated by the press and frankly disrespected, in Darren Barker. Darren is a very good fighter. He is undefeated as a pro, he was a terrific amateur, he is the European and Commonwealth champion, and I think his credentials speak for themselves. I think Sergio realizes that he is in there with a real fighter and that this is a real challenge. Darren Barker has nothing to lose and Sergio has everything to lose and that makes for a very dangerous fight. "In the opening fight, we have a tremendous match-up with Andy Lee, who has established himself as one of the best middleweights in the world, taking on the tough-as-nails Bryan Vera. Andy is on the verge of challenging for a championship, but he has that one notch on his record that he wants to get rid of, and that's his loss to Bryan Vera. This is an interesting fight because both Andy and Bryan are much better fighters than they were a few years ago when they first met, and both have a lot to prove in this fight. This fight was made because Andy Lee wanted this fight, not because he needed it, and I think that says a lot about Andy and his team." ANDY LEE - "This fight has been three-and-a-half years in the making. I have wanted it since the day after the first fight. I have been longing for this fight, and finally it's here. I want to thank Lou and HBO for making this fight happen and giving me this opportunity. I have had a great training camp, and I am ready for this, and ready to prove myself on Saturday night. I'm not looking past Bryan Vera or anything, but after I beat him, I'm going to take my ringside seat and, with all due respect to Sergio and Darren, I am ready and want to fight the winner. BRYAN VERA - "I am grateful for this opportunity to fight Lee again Saturday night. I have paid my dues, and worked very hard to get to this point. I have become a much better fighter since our first fight and everyone will see that come fight night. I have tremendous respect for Andy for taking this fight, because I recognize that he didn't have to take this fight. I expect to put on an exciting performance Saturday night, and take my career to the next level." EDDIE HEARN - "All I can tell you about Darren Barker is he is 23-0, the undefeated British Commonwealth and European Champion, top 10 in every organization and number three in the WBC, so I don't know what more you have got to do to deserve a shot in boxing. But we are fine that we are being underestimated, we are fine that we are the underdog, because I can tell you that no one in our camp, especially Darren Barker, feels like an underdog. We feel that we are the toughest test that Sergio will have faced in his past few fights. You look at his opponents, Darren is in a different league than Dzinziruk, Williams is a blown up welterweight who beat Sergio once, and Kelly Pavlik was a washed-up fighter at the time struggling to make weight, so we feel this is the biggest test Sergio has had. We are looking forward to a good fight, we believe we have a real, real good chance here. We have massive support at home, and anyone who underestimates Darren, they are going to be in for a very big shock come Saturday night." In response, Martinez advisor Sampson . . . SAMPSON LEWKOWICZ - "I am very disappointed in those statements. You don't give the champion credit. The first time he fought Williams, no one wanted to fight him, and we fought him and everyone knows we won that fight; then in the second, we left no questions by knocking him out. With Pavlik, he was the champion at middleweight and, to be the champion, we fought and beat the champion, so who the hell are you to sit there and make those statements? I respect your fighter, but statements like that are disrespectful to the champion. Sergio Martinez is the best fighter in the world, and on Saturday nigh,t everyone will have the opportunity to see him put on another great performance DARREN BARKER - "I'm in the best shape of my life and I know I have to be because I am facing a great champion on Saturday night. Everyone I have talked to says to me that I look relaxed, not nervous, and I think the reason for that is that there aren't many things in life that I am good at, but boxing is one of them. This is what I have dedicated my life to since I was 12 years old. When I am inside those ropes, that's when I am comfortable, that is when I am in my environment, and that is one of the reasons I am so confident in this fight. This is what I do. I am extremely confident, and I say that loudly and boldly, as much as I respect Sergio, but from the first time I have seen him, I know I have what it takes to pull off the upset. I am going to turn that question mark in back of me into an exclamation point. I am here to prove to the world that I do belong here, and do belong on this stage. Tune in, it's going to be a great night." When it was Martinez' turn to speak he started off speaking in English, thanking everyone in attendance, as well as HBO, promoter Lou DiBella, and Darren Barker for accepting the challenge. Martinez continued in Spanish, "Like always my preparation has been excellent and on Saturday night you will see a very good fight. I want to thank everyone, and look forward to seeing everyone come out on Saturday night . . .
"Noche de 'Maravilla': Martinez vs. Barker" is being presented by DiBella Entertainment in association with Matchroom Sport, and Caesars Atlantic City, and is sponsored by Corona. Doors open at 6PM ET, with the first bout scheduled for 6:30PM ET. HBO will begin live coverage at 10:00PM ET DBE

VIP tables for 10 are also available. Brooklyn junior welterweight prospect Gabriel “Tito” Bracero (16-0, 2 KOs), 30, is returning to the platform that has become home court for him. July 30 will mark his eighth appearance on Broadway Boxing. Bracero is coming off his most impressive victory to date, knocking out Guillermo Valdes in just 40 seconds at Roseland Ballroom on July 11, celebrating his heritage during Puerto Rican Day Parade weekend. A two-time New York Golden Gloves champion and Junior Olympics champion, Bracero turned pro in 2001, at the age of 20, scoring five four-round decisions. However, his career would be put on hold as he succumbed to the lure of the streets and spent time in prison on a weapons charge. Refocused upon his release, Bracero resumed his career in 2009 and has won 11 in a row. Until recently, Bracero was not known to have much power, but his style is that of a volume puncher who applies relentless pressure in wearing opponents down. Flyweight Keisher “Fire” McLeod-Wells (4-1, 1 KO), 34, of New York, NY, is a slick boxer with a stinging jab, who will be making her third appearance on Broadway Boxing, this time in a New York State title bout. After an accomplished amateur career that included 12 titles, four of which were New York Golden Gloves championships, McLeod-Wells turned pro on February 3, 2009, with a 55-second knockout over Treasure Saunders at the Masonic Temple in Brooklyn. “Fire” then traveled to Panama, going 1-1 in a pair of fights in May and July of that year. After defeating Abigail Villar in a four-round unanimous decision, McLeod-Wells then lost a controversial four-round majority decision to Laura Ledezma. Avoided by many fighters near her weight class, McLeod-Wells was forced into a bit of a layoff before taking a spot on a DiBella Entertainment-promoted show at BB King Blues Club, on March 31, 2010, winning a four-round unanimous decision over Laura Gomez. In her last fight, McLeod-Wells moved up to six-rounders, winning a unanimous decision over Melissa McMorrow, on February 9, 2011. Dominican middleweight Jonathan Cepeda (10-0, 9 KOs), 27, of West Palm Beach, FL, is a rugged power puncher, who has shown poise and patience in the ring while stalking his foes, looking for openings. He is coming off seven consecutive knockout victories, and turned pro as a middleweight, on November 21, 2008, with a first round stoppage of Charles Wade in Florida. In his last bout on April 16, Cepeda needed just 129 seconds to knock out Brad Austin in North Carolina. Seanie Monaghan (7-0, 4 KOs), 28, is an Irish brick layer out of Long Beach, NY. Despite a lack of amateur experience, with just 15 bouts, Monaghan was able to reach the finals of the New York Golden Gloves before turning pro in May 2010. Making up for his minimal amateur background, Monaghan is maintaining a busy schedule as a pro at light heavyweight, as his fight on July 30 will be his fourth this year thus far. In March, Monaghan fought twice, winning unanimous four-round decisions over Billy Cunningham and Michael Glenn. Delen “Sniper” Parsley (5-0, 2 KOs), 23, of Brooklyn, NY, is a former amateur standout and son of famed Gleason’s Gym coach Delen “Blimp” Parsley. Turning pro in July 2009 as a junior middleweight, Parsley’s last two ring appearances have taken place at the BB King Blues Club on Broadway Boxing. In both fights, Parsley, standing 6’2”, used his exceptional height to his advantage in winning unanimous decisions over Eberto Medina in a four-rounder then graduating to six rounds in defeating David Lopez. After winning the New York Golden Gloves as a novice in 2008, light heavyweight Joe Smith Jr., of Mastic, NY, turned professional on Halloween 2009 in explosive fashion. Smith, now 6-1 (6 KOs), started his pro career with four first-round knockouts followed by two second-round stoppages. However, when he steps back into the ring on July 30 at the Aviator, it will be at the same venue at which he sustained his first defeat, a fourth-round TKO to Eddie Caminero last August, that saw him suffer a broken jaw. Tickets for Broadway Boxing can be purchased by calling DiBella Entertainment at (212) 947-2577, and more information can be obtained by visiting www.dbe1.com. # # #
SALITA MAKES IT THREE IN A ROW Ron Ross Photos by Lisa Ross
Utilizing a snapping left jab and rapid fire combinations, Dmitriy Salita thrilled his “congregation” at Oceana Hall in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn by outboxing, outpunching and outfighting his taller, rough-housing opponent, Ronnie Warrior of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 148, who came in with a 13(4)-4-1 record.
The fight did not start off on a positive note for Salita. Just seconds into the opening round of the scheduled eight round bout, a clash of heads that resounded throughout the arena caused Salita to kneel on the canvas holding his head in obvious pain.
The Star of David’s speed, accuracy and ring craftsmanship had him totally dominate his opponent. Warrior had no answer for Salita’s boxing skill or punching volume. Other than the left jab there was no single punch output. For Salita it was “punches in bunches.”He would open his attack with a snapping left jab then move in behind it with a cluster-attack, whipping the left hook to the body, right to the body, left hook again, then right cross to the head. His stamina level never diminished. He began punching harder in the sixth round and had the crowd roaring its approval as he was banging away at Warrior with a two-fisted onslaught at the final bell. It was a masterful performance that saw Salita sweep every round on two of the judges’ scorecards and the third giving Salita seven of the eight rounds. Salita on the attack
Salita, weighing in at 149, is now 33-1-1. There is no question that his record and skill level warrant another shot at a world title. It may take a win over a “name” opponent to get that stamp of approval.
Salita interviewed by Steve Farhood for The Jewish Channel after victory
In the co-feature eight rounder, Brooklyn’s Luis Collazo’s return to combat after a two year layoff was a smashing, resounding success as he seeked, chased and destroyed Franklin Gonzalez, Santo Domingo, DR, 151, 13(10)-8. Relentlessly pursuing Gonzalez from the opening bell, Collazo, blasting away with both hands, dropped Gozalez with a right hook followed by a left to the head at the close of the second round. He continued his assault, scoring two more knockdowns in the third round, stopping Gonzalez at 2:14 of that round.

Broadway Boxing Returns to the BB King Blues Club featuring Puerto Rican Sensation José Pedraza Local Favorites Monroe, Monaghan, Peterkin, Burrell and Parsley to See Action on the Undercard (March 15, 2011 – New York, NY) New York City’s longest running and most successful boxing series, Broadway Boxing presented by Coors Light, returns March 29 to the most intimate venue for boxing in the country, the BB King Blues Club in Times Square. In addition, lightweight Scott Burrell (2-0, 2 KOs), and super middleweight Travis Peterkin (1-0, 1 KO), both from Brooklyn, will face opponents to be named, as well as junior welterweight Gabriel DaLuc, of Quincy, MA, making his pro debut. Pedraza (1-0, 1 KO), 21, after a stellar amateur career, is already poised to become the next boxing superstar out of Puerto Rico. Highlights of Pedraza’s amateur résumé include competing in the 2008 Olympic Games, winning a gold medal in the Central American and Caribbean Games in 2010, silver in the World Amateur Championships in 2009 and the 2010 Pan American Championships, and bronze at the 2007 Pan American Games and the 2008 Boxing World Cup. Pedraza professionally debuted as a junior lightweight with a TKO1 over Felix Rivera on February 18, at Coliseo Pachin Vicens in Ponce. Although only one fight into his professional campaign, with his amateur pedigree, it won’t be long before Pedraza is in contention for a world title and is sought after by the major networks. Monroe Jr. (10-0, 4 KOs), 24, has had boxing in his blood from a young age. His father was a middleweight contender in the 90s, and his great uncle was the famous middleweight contender out of Philadelphia, Willie “The Worm” Monroe. Three years into his pro career, he has been carrying on the tradition nicely. In his last bout, Monroe, who lives and trains in Rochester, stopped then 6-2 Mickey Scarborough inside five rounds. Monaghan (6-0, 4 KOs), 28, a brick layer out of Long Beach, NY, carries the luck of the Irish each time he steps into the ring. Although he did not have much amateur experience, with only 15 bouts, Monaghan was able to reach the finals of the New York Golden Gloves tournament before turning pro last May. Making up for lack of an amateur background, Monaghan is keeping a busy schedule as a pro, and will be fighting for the second time this month when he steps into the ring at BB King Blues Club on March 29. In his last fight, Monaghan outclassed Billy Cunningham over four rounds, winning a unanimous decision on the Martinez-Dzinziruk undercard. Parsley (4-0, 2 KOs), 23, of Brooklyn, NY, is a former amateur standout and son of famed Gleason’s Gym trainer Delen “Blimp” Parsley, who doubles as his trainer. Standing at 6’2”, Parsley used his exceptional height to his advantage in winning a four-round unanimous decision over Eberto Medina in his Broadway Boxing debut on December 1. Tickets can be purchased by calling DiBella Entertainment: (212) 947-2577, and more information can be obtained by visiting www.dbe1.com.
